October 24, 2012: Abuja, Nigeria / San Jose California: An Audio/Voice Internet phone technology has been introduced into the Nigerian telecom industry. At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, InternetSpeech Inc and Adamu Consulting in collaboration with ICT University of Baton Rouge Louisiana presented this new technology and described the innovation as a milestone that will effectively bridge the Digital and Language Divides, allowing accessing the Internet easily and enjoying all features using any phone and user’s voice.

Dr. Emdad Khan of the InternetSpeech Inc said it will deploy the Voice Internet technology and service infrastructure to Nigerian consumers, businesses and governments. On how the web browser phone works, he said access is provided via any phone to information on any website, whether or not that site has been voice-enabled.

According to him, InternetSpeech access also means providing all features of Internet including surfing, audio browsing, searching, sending and receiving e-mails, doing e-health, e-Learning, e-commerce, and e-agriculture capabilities. This application would be particularly useful in disseminating health information to the grassroots and assisting illiterate farmers in accessing markets across the world in addition to providing new techniques in farming. He said the patented Voice Internet technology uses an Intelligent Agent that performs key tasks which include automating communication between a telephone and the Internet and thereby extracting key information from a web page.

He said it also interprets the content of a web page and renders visual website content to be very user friendly “easily navigable and meaningful audio text content”. Bridging the Digital and Language Divides using Voice Internet has direct impact on Economic, Social, Cultural and other developments including Increased Peace in Nigeria. InternetSpeech, Inc was founded in 1999 and based in Silicon Valley (San Jose) California, USA.
