Company Also Will Show How To Use the Web from an Ordinary Phone, With Simple Voice Commands and its netECHO™ Technology

New York, NY — Feb. 19, 2001 — As phones get smaller, and consumers’ mobile Internet expectations grow larger, the human voice will become the natural way to gather Web-based information while on-the-go, according to Dr. Emdad Khan, president and founder of InternetSpeech, an audio Internet Technology Provider in San Jose, CA.

Dr. Khan, a leading innovator in voice Internet technology, will discuss the growing interest in voice access to the Internet at Internet World Wireless 2001, being held Feb. 20-23 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, NY.

In “How to Type on a Keyboard the Size of Your Thumb,” Dr. Khan will look at different approaches to accessing the Internet by phone, including:

  • Audio Internet Services, which offer access to any Web site via phone.
  • Voice Portal Services, which offer access to selected Internet information via phone, such as news, weather, horoscopes, restaurants, etc.
  • Voice-Enabling Web Sites, or different ways to create “talking” Web sites, including WML or VXML, and
  • Voice-Enabling Applications, e.g. Selling Insurances, Configuring a Car, and Airline Reservations
  • Wireless Application Protocol, a system which allows Web access using text on small screens of compatible wireless phones. And
  • Combination of WAP and Voice.

Dr. Khan’s talk is part of the Wireless Platforms Forum, scheduled for Feb. 22 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at Internet World Wireless 2001.

netECHO Demonstration:

InternetSpeech will also be demonstrating its netECHO technology in booth 1042 at the exhibit hall, Feb. 21 – 23.

netECHO lets users hear any Web site, search for information, and check and respond to e-mail using any phone — no computer is necessary.

Company executives will also be on hand to discuss its business-to-business netECHO offering. The product allows a business’s customers to hear and interact with their Web site and applications. Depending on the site’s content, a caller would be able to: hear company news; gather product and pricing information; check an order or account status; make purchases; pay bills; or obtain product support.

Recent Partnerships:

Selectica™, Inc. — InternetSpeech recently announced a partnership with Selectica™, Inc., a provider of Internet Selling Systems (ISS) for e-Businesses, to voice enable e-commerce Web sites.

By accessing e-Commerce sites powered by Selectica and InternetSpeech over the telephone, users will be able to hear options, make choices and buy products using speech recognition technology.

Integrated Opportunities — Internet Speech and Integrated Opportunities have formed a partnership to offer rural electric consumers Net access via phone, and help narrow the “digital divide.” Utilizing InternetSpeech’s netECHO product, Integrated Opportunities will offer audio Internet access to Rural Electric Cooperatives (RECs) and Municipal Power Authorities (MPAs) throughout the nation, allowing consumers to hear Web pages, review utility rates and offerings, and pay energy bills over the phone.
